Out of the Darkness
The World Health Organization established World AIDS Day in 1988, which is observed every year on December 1st. World AIDS Day provides governments, national AIDS programs, faith organizations, community organizations, and individuals with an opportunity to raise awareness and focus attention on the global AIDS pandemic. Memorials honoring persons who have died from HIV/AIDS are commonly held on this day.
The AIDS pandemic has claimed an estimated 21.8 million lives, of which 20% were children. Today, an estimated 36.1 million people are living with HIV/AIDS.
The Keith Haring Foundation is pleased to support Out of the Darkness, a World AIDS Day event being held in New York City.
